Commission votes to recommend vehicle gate at Thomas Park

Herring Fishery Commission · Meeting of April 8, 2026

Middleborough-Lakeville Herring Fishery Commission votes to recommend vehicle gate at Thomas Park. Following Warden Ron Burgess's report of dual-wheeled truck tire tracks observed near the water's edge, the commission voted unanimously to send a letter to the town manager recommending installation of the gate to regulate vehicle traffic and prevent herring poaching. The commission also unanimously opposed a licensed herring harvest program for river herring in the Nemasket River in connection with a harvest in Harwich.

The group is planning participation in the Annual Middleborough River Herring Festival on April 11 and 12.
