Conservation Commission backs Girl Scout Nemasket River adoption

MIDDLEBOROUGH — Girl Scout Troop 64979 wins Conservation Commission approval for Nemasket River adoption program. Middleborough's Conservation Commission unanimously backed the two mile river project between Murdock Street and the Taunton River, with Conservation Agent Patricia J. Cassady clarifying that passive water quality monitoring requires no permit from the Commission.
The troop plans water testing at eight locations along the river and will work with Massachusetts Wildlife biologists on species identification and turtle monitoring on state-owned land. Water quality testing showed a 10 percent decline since 2001 baseline measurements, dropping from 3.8 to 3.4 on a zero-to-four scale.
