HERRING COMMISSION VOTES TO PARTICIPATE IN RIVER HERRING FESTIVAL

MIDDLEBOROUGH — Herring Commission votes to participate in River Herring Festival. The Middleborough-Lakeville Herring Fishery Commission voted unanimously to apply for participation in the 2026 River Herring Festival on April 11-12, with Secretary Bruce Chase submitting the application to the Middleborough Tourism Committee. The commission approved December 17, 2025 meeting minutes with four votes in favor and one abstention from David Cavanaugh, who was absent that day.

The commission also established a four-member quorum level to comply with state open-meeting law and heard a presentation from Girl Scout Troop 64979 on plans to monitor water quality and fauna along the Nemasket River.
