Middleborough approves police layoffs, authorizes water main project

Middleborough Select Board advances police layoffs, capital projects. The Board voted unanimously to approve a memorandum of agreement with the police union authorizing layoff of four officers effective July 1, and assigned Interim Town Manager Joe Perkins as civil service hearing officer. Nancy Kefalis, MacDonald Sprague III, and Ed Medeiros were appointed to expand the Town Manager Search Committee to eight voting members.

The Board received $272,000 in updated state Cherry Sheets funding and restored five budget line items. The Board recommended favorable action on warrant articles authorizing capital projects totaling approximately $13 million, including a $6 million North Street Water Main Replacement Project and a $518,000 Pratt Farm Large Dam Replacement funded 66 percent by a state grant.
