Middleborough Select Board confronts budget crisis: FY25 audit defects delay completion, state slashes aid by $154,386, and Bristol-Plymouth High School debt shortfall reaches $1,151,055. Interim Town Manager Robert Nunes recommended rescheduling the Special Town Meeting to November 9 to allow time for comprehensive budget review and hiring of financial staff and outside consultants. The Board voted unanimously to reopen the warrant for supplemental articles, appointment Finance Director Susan Nickerson as acting Treasurer/Collector, and approved $11,493,622 in bond anticipation notes.
Enterprise funds for water, wastewater, and sanitation all carry deficits, with Water Department debt projections exceeding $110 million over the next decade.
