Park Commission reorganizes, approves prior minutes; reviews budget crisis.

Park Commission · Meeting of April 7, 2026

Middleborough Park Commission unanimously retained Garrett Perry as Chair and Dawn Savery as Vice Chair at its April 7 meeting. Park Superintendent Fran Cass reported the department has submitted three budget reduction scenarios to the Interim Town Manager: 5, 10, and 20 percent. Cass warned that a 20 percent cut would force pool closure and require filling it under state law, an expense costing millions to reverse if reopened.

The park generates approximately $170,000 annually and represents only 0.02 percent of the town budget. Spring maintenance includes flagpole repairs, extensive tree removal, and preparation for multiple youth leagues beginning play this month; the pool is scheduled to open June 27.
