Select Board requests RFP for Town Manager search; budget shortfall projected at 1.6 to 3.3 million

Select Board · Meeting of March 16, 2026

MIDDLEBOROUGH — Select Board requests Town Manager search RFP instead of engaging Rick White's firm at 9950 dollars. Interim Town Manager Joe Perkins reported a projected FY27 budget shortfall between 1.6 million and 3.3 million dollars driven by lower state aid, higher health insurance costs, an 800000 dollar Bristol Plymouth school assessment gap, and inaccurate revenue estimates, prompting the board to request a complete budget revision and to consult town counsel on moving the town meeting date to allow time for rebalancing. The board also approved a 1746 dollar per bedroom water connection fee for accessory dwelling units, a kratom regulation ban effective immediately, one-day beer and wine licenses for The Alley Theatre, and an amended Soule Homestead lease agreement.
