Select Board tightens FY27 budget by $3.375 million through layoffs and consolidations.

Middleborough Select Board approves revised FY27 budget totaling $112.5 million, eliminating a $3.375 million shortfall. Interim Town Manager Joe Perkins outlined a plan affecting nineteen layoffs, five vacant positions, four attrition reductions, and seniority-based bumping across departments. The Fire Department absorbs $684,142 in cuts including five dispatcher layoffs; the Police Department loses four officers and $432,416 in funding.

The School Department faces a $400,000 reduction without teaching job loss. The board also voted 3-2 to appoint Municipal Resources Inc. at $14,800 as Town Manager search consultant, with Members Brian Giovanoni and Thomas White opposing and Members William Pike Jr., Tracie Craig-McGee, and Chair Teresa Kelly Farley voting in favor. Interviews for two at-large Town Manager search committee members are scheduled for the following Monday.
