School Committee · Meeting of August 27, 2026
MIDDLEBOROUGH — The Middleborough School Committee voted unanimously to leave a vacant seat open until the April town election rather than fill it with the Select Board. The seat opened after member Shannon Breen resigned for family reasons; resident Robert Sullivan reminded the board the seven-seat expansion came from a town meeting vote amid looming budget pressure. The committee also introduced new principal Patrick Lenz and pupil-personnel hire Heather Geary, approved revised student handbooks tightening unexcused-absence thresholds at Middleborough High School, and heard that Director of Finance Mike Perrone is resigning.
A public commenter affiliated with ParentDataForce.com said a recent principal hire came in at $142,000 against a cited state average of $116,452, calling the hiring trail's gaps a matter taxpayers "deserve to know why."
