Middleborough School Committee Unanimously Selects David Thompson as Interim Superintendent

MIDDLEBOROUGH — June 3, 2026 — Middleborough School Committee picks David Thompson as interim superintendent in a unanimous vote. The committee convened a special meeting June 3 to interview four finalists — Eric Chofi, Thompson, Tracy Curley, and David Cutler — for the interim role left open after a leadership transition in a district managing a roughly $2.2 million structural deficit and preparing to launch its first common elementary ELA curriculum in at least six years. After roughly four hours of structured interviews, all five members named Thompson, a former Norwood superintendent and current Wilmington interim, as a top pick; Chair Kristen Phillips cited his "systems approach" to special education and curriculum implementation as decisive factors. Member Leah Machado called him "the all-star of the night." The 5-0 motion offered Thompson the position "pending successful negotiation and successful reference check," with a search consultant on hand to place the call immediately after the vote.
