School Committee · Meeting of April 9, 2026
Middleborough's School Committee elected Susan Pennini chair and Kimberly Redlon vice chair, then confronted a $2.3 million fiscal 2027 budget gap that has already cut 23.5 positions. Acting Superintendent Mike presented a $50,057,431 level-service budget against a projected local allocation of $42,550,000. The board voted unanimously to refer a disputed three-minute public comment rule to its policy subcommittee after member Christopher Benson moved to consider deleting it, and separately suspended the rule for the night only.
Members also voted to survey parents, staff and students on whether to hire an interim superintendent for next year or rush a permanent hire by July 1, after MASC consultant Sean Costello said either option costs $11,500. Member Leah Machado said the public comment process "doesn't feel right" when residents get no response. A decision on the superintendent search is expected April 30.
