School Committee · Meeting of January 22, 2026
Middleborough School Committee adopts a $404,000 K-8 reading curriculum over a costlier rival bid. The board voted unanimously for Savvas's My View/My Perspectives program, beating Houghton Mifflin Harcourt's roughly $430,000 Into Reading bid, with payments split across two years. Special Education Director Melissa Deutschman separately reported the state placed Middleborough in "needs assistance" status for special education after the district scored 27 of 41 points, or 66 percent, on a new DESE matrix, driven largely by MCAS results and seven prior compliance findings.
The board also approved Principal Paul Branigan's 2026-27 program of studies, adding a Principles of AI elective and a redesigned Project Lead the Way senior capstone merging biomedical science, engineering, computer science and advanced manufacturing. Eleven revised school policies and a $23,839 early college planning grant were also approved unanimously.
