School Committee · Meeting of March 12, 2026
Middleborough's School Committee hired MASC to run its superintendent search and opened a three-hour hearing on a $52.8 million fiscal 2027 budget without voting on it. Finance presenter Mike Perrone said a $2.2 million shortfall has the district proposing to cut 24.5 full-time positions, down from 23 to 18 in teaching and coaching roles alone. Teacher Tony Huppie challenged the committee over a line-item jump he called a "$4 million increase" in out-of-district special education placements.
Resident Alexis Burrows urged the board to chase a Massachusetts School Building Authority grant for leaking elementary school roofs before a March 17 deadline. The committee also voted, with one member opposed, to postpone a survey on elementary school reconfiguration until a new superintendent is hired. The budget vote is now set for March 26.
