Middleborough's School Committee voted to form a subcommittee reviewing its pick of the SAVVAS reading curriculum after teachers said their pilot feedback never reached the board. Teacher Jessica Hilton said the program could cost the district "over $400,000" and described piloting teachers receiving a pencil case with a crocheted pickle reading "deal with it." Resident Bridget Kearns cited a roughly $2.5 million budget deficit in questioning the purchase. Superintendent Mike asked for a month to six weeks to form a review panel of principals, piloting teachers and two committee members; the motion passed unanimously.

The board separately approved a $1,449-per-student, four-day Washington, D.C. trip for Nichols Middle School's eighth graders, renewed its $2,610,945 Five Star Transportation bus contract despite lateness complaints from teacher Leslie Lemieux, and approved a $100,000 MSBA roof study for Nichols Middle School.
